Is English Killing other languages

Here's what i posted on Rediff.com's article on Mr. AnanthaMurthy's comments about whether English is killing other languages or not?

If you want other people's views please read http://mboard.rediff.com/board/board.php?boardid=news2006mar14msg2&page=11

Here's the link to the great author's comments: http://in.rediff.com/news/2006/mar/14english.htm

I must say it's a kind of mixed bag. But the worst thing about the author is crystal clear. He's a strong Kannadiga and wants kannada back from being global. You just can't stop all this. Everything has to dwell some day or not. True, due to silly politics, the name of Bangalore has been changed to Bengaluru, but then the thoughts and message is pretty clear. These people just want to live in the shell and die. Can't they see how many people face a lot of problems just because they are hindi speaking and don't know kannada? Everybody in Bangalore, who's a non-kannada (But an Indian), has faced this problem of not being able to speak in the local language. This is pretty shady. Can't you see, how many Indians are facing a problem because of this? Indians facing problems in India, because of people like these authors. True he might have won some awards in literature, but i would dub these awards as rubbish, if these awards have failed to bring a global outlook to the author. Shame on you. We should ask the author, whether he's proud of being a kannada or being an India????????
Ask him.....

The guy wants to divide India with regards to languages, so if his is done, after 5-6 years I don't see India as a world power, but can really see no interaction between the other states due to language barrier. So cheap author, with so many awards, and shameless, giving his cheap thoughts a global outlook.

People like these want India to be as backwards as possible, and don't just want to see where the world is heading. I mean to say I know only 2 languages, Hindi and English, and I am very fine with it. Why do I need to know my regional language when it won't be required throughout my life.
Look at Tamil Nadu, they are staunch supporters of Tamil, and people there don't talk in hindi and english. What the hell? No people from outside can go there because they face a lot of problems there.

The author just wants to make some more blots on the face of india.

You are such a shameless fellow that you do not know how to respect an elder, a personality with good reputation etc. etc. This shows your culture. You do not even think you want to learn another language and want all in the south know your language Hindi. Before writing such blogs, please think over once again.

You want a South Indian to learn a third language Hindi and you want to go wasy with only two languages? Why this shameless attitude? You do not want to retain your own identity by learning your mother tongue, thats you problem. But we kannadigas want to retain our mother tongue, that is our pride and history. This language has a great history and one of the oldest after Sanskrit and Tamil. Your blocked mind may not understand these things.

Great, already your words are showing your complete attitude. By the way, the person who won Jnanapith award for you, is just a citizen of India, just like me and this country has awarded me the right to express myself, and if that person can express his concerns, why can't I? An award doesn't distinguish between citizens.
My mind is blocked or yours, I can't really say. Hope you see this blog again, as I can't email you.

Your pride and prestige in being a Kannadiga and not being an Indian, was very well documented by the award winner. No need for you to say that (I won't say that you have a blocked mind, coz i don't have any means to test you, but one thing I can really say, that you are tending to be a frog in a well.)

Go out kid, see where the world is heading, and you'll realize you are stuck arguing a fellow compatriot over petty issues.

Nitin,

You think you are global? So if a english or dutch comes to bihar or gujarat or punjab how many of your guys can speak in english with him? Most of the northern state languages sound like hindi so you don't have a problem.

South is different. Southern languages are very powerful, more powerful than hindi. Southies want to retain their languages in their land like the way indians wanted freedom during british rule.

I'm a telugu and been living in b'lore for a decade. I know about the problems in here. I also know about mr. anantha murthy. He is a great writer. Before even knowing completely about him or any subject just don't throw your opinions.
